UDA to Change Leadership Pending Court Decision on Gachagua’s Impeachment
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced plans to replace its Deputy Party Leader, Rigathi Gachagua, once a court ruling is made on his impeachment case.
Background on Gachagua’s Impeachment
- Current Situation: Gachagua, who was impeached by the Senate, is challenging this decision in court.
- Replacement Nominee: UDA has nominated Kithure Kindiki to become the next Deputy President if the court rules against Gachagua.

UDA’s Next Steps
UDA’s Secretary General, Hassan Omar, shared the party’s plans during a press meeting on Tuesday:
- Court Decision Pending: The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is waiting on the court’s final decision before making any leadership changes.
- New Deputy Leader: If Gachagua’s impeachment is upheld, the NEC will officially replace him with Kindiki.
“Once the process in the courts has been concluded, we will sit down as a party and ensure we replace the Deputy Party leader with the new one,” Omar stated.
Advice to Gachagua
Omar suggested that Gachagua should move on from the legal battles:
- Focus Elsewhere: Omar advised that Gachagua consider settling his political issues outside of court.
- Encouragement to Move Forward: He added, “If he wants to regroup and reorganize politically, we wish him all the best, but let us move on.”
Gachagua’s Response
- Legal Argument: Gachagua’s legal team claims the Senate’s impeachment decision was made unfairly, as Gachagua was in the hospital at the time.
- Commitment to Fight: Gachagua maintains he is the legitimate Deputy President and is determined to remain in office.
