Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Laikipia Women Representative Cate Waruguru to moderate her political comments and avoid attacking his rivals amid the ongoing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Gachagua’s plea came during a meeting at his Karen residence in Nairobi, where Waruguru visited to offer support as discussions on his potential impeachment gathered steam. He urged Waruguru to refrain from inflaming the already heightened political atmosphere with divisive rhetoric.
The DP emphasized the need for leaders to focus on serving their constituents and working towards improving the nation, rather than engaging in personal political battles.
“Punguza maneno, hatuna vita na mtu yeyote, tutulie tufanye kazi, kenya yetu iendee mbele,” he said.
He added, “We don’t have a problem with anyone. Let’s sit back and work for Kenya.”
DP Gachagua Responding to Waruguru’s Fiery Remarks as Political Tensions Escalate
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s call for restraint is believed to be in response to a series of sharp comments made by Laikipia Women Representative Catherine Waruguru in the past week. Waruguru, known for her vocal support of the DP, had recently launched scathing attacks against leaders rallying for Gachagua’s impeachment.
Speaking at the burial of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Wanyua, Waruguru issued a stern warning to MPs pushing for the DP’s ouster, declaring they stood no chance in the 2027 general election. Her remarks have drawn widespread attention, further intensifying the political infighting within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Gachagua, while acknowledging her loyalty, urged Waruguru to tone down her rhetoric and instead focus on more constructive leadership, as concerns over the growing divisions continue to mount.
“We want to tell those bringing impeachment motion; some of them are my sisters and they are looking for signatures to send Gachagua home. People are watching you very closely. Anyone who wants to fight his or her elder brother will be sent home early in the morning,” Waruguru stated.
