Universities Ordered to Revoke Admission Letters: The National Assembly Education Committee directed the Ministry of Education to instruct universities to retract all admission letters during a session on Tuesday.

During the committee meeting, the Ministry was urged to intervene and instruct universities to withdraw already-issued admission letters due to alleged discrepancies in the tuition fees students are required to pay.

Reportedly, the Ministry of Education mandated a fixed total amount of school fees for all students in the admission letters, disregarding the various categories outlined in the new funding model.

Consequently, the recall of these letters aims to rectify the displayed fee amounts by allocating fees based on the designated classifications.

The decision came amid protests from various stakeholders, including parents and students, concerning the fee amounts stated in the admission letters.

In response to the allegations, Education Ministry officials acknowledged the error, prompting the legislators to issue directives.

In its defense, the Ministry cited several shortcomings in the student categorization process, attributing some gaps to insufficient information. As part of the appeals process, students were encouraged to provide comprehensive information to aid in evaluating their status.

The new funding model, implemented by the government in May 2023, aimed to assist financially disadvantaged students by exempting them from college and university fees, including upkeep expenses.

Under this model, students were classified into vulnerable, extremely needy, needy, and less needy categories, with vulnerable and extremely needy students receiving full funding, while needy and less needy students received 93% coverage.
