The outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has bid farewell to Kenyans as she prepares to leave the country.
In a heartfelt video shared on her X account, Whitman expressed her gratitude, calling it an honor to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya since August 2022.
“As I close my time at the Embassy, I want to take a moment to say Asante sana to all the incredible friends I have made in Kenya,” she said.

Reflecting on her tenure, Whitman noted that she had traveled to 28 counties, interacting with Kenyans and witnessing firsthand the partnership between the U.S. and Kenya aimed at fostering a stronger future.
“Whenever I went around the country, I met amazing Kenyans working hard to create jobs, improve healthcare, build a stronger democracy, and strengthen ties between Kenyans and Americans—the foundation of our successful partnership,” she said.

Whitman highlighted the privilege of sharing Kenya’s inspiring stories with Americans, engaging U.S. business leaders interested in investing in Kenya’s thriving “Silicon Savanna,” and participating in a historic White House visit with President William Ruto.
“I began my term as an ambassador posing the question, ‘Why Africa? Why Kenya?’ Well, nobody is asking that anymore—the word is out about Kenya’s potential,” she remarked.

She also expressed her admiration for Kenya’s beautiful landscapes, vibrant economy, and, above all, the people who welcomed her with warmth and unmatched hospitality.
“I am thankful I had the opportunity to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya and for the lasting friendships I have made along the way. Asante sana!” Whitman concluded.
