Tanzanian songstress Vanessa Mdee recently shared a harrowing experience involving a prominent music manager in Tanzania, prompting her to decline a potential management deal.
During a recent conversation with her husband, American-Nigerian actor and musician Rotimi, Mdee recounted a disturbing proposition from the manager, which involved occult practices.
“I was in search of new management, so I reached out to the most well-known manager in Tanzania,” Mdee began. “I expressed my interest in being managed by their team, and that’s when he disclosed something unsettling.”
“He told me, ‘If you join our management, you must understand that we practice occultism, including witchcraft and black magic. Before any music release, we conduct rituals,'” she continued.
Shocked by this revelation, Mdee questioned the manager’s beliefs and their alignment with her own faith. “I asked him, ‘Don’t you believe in the sufficiency of God?’ His response was, ‘We do, but this is also part of our culture, intertwined with our beliefs.'”
Resolute in her Christian convictions, Mdee decided against pursuing the management deal. “I never revisited the discussion.
I’m grateful to my parents for instilling a reverence for God in me early on because I wasn’t willing to compromise my faith,” she asserted.
This disclosure follows Mdee’s previous remarks about the music industry. In 2020, she referred to it as “demonic,” attributing it to leading her astray.
During an episode of her podcast Deep Dive, the mother of two explained her departure from music.
“I had to prioritize my life. The music industry is filled with darkness,” Vanessa proclaimed. “Now, my fans might be wondering, ‘Will you never sing again? Will we never see you perform?’
Let me clarify. I adore music, creating, and performing. I am a vessel. This is my purpose on earth. But perhaps I was meant to endure everything I have, to truthfully convey what you won’t hear elsewhere.”
