Lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso was arrested on Monday following a police raid at his main office in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi.
Kebaso’s legal representative, who trailed the police vehicle to the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, disclosed that the team was denied entry to the facility.
“They have restricted access and have strict instruction from the top not to allow any person to access Morara including lawyers, media personnel, and any other persons,” he told the press.
‘’The question is what type of police do we have here? They have no respect for the constitution, they have no respect for the ruler of the law. The head is rotten all the way from the Minister of Interior including all the officers that we have here holding Morara and we should condemn it in the strongest way possible.”
The reason for Morara Kebaso’s arrest remains unclear.
Following the arrest, many Kenyans took to social media, describing the incident as an abduction. A witness claimed that a Subaru Forester was used during the alleged abduction.
In a video shared online after the arrest, the vehicle is seen traveling along Thika Superhighway.
Kebaso had spent most of the weekend in Bomet and Kericho counties, conducting civic education rallies and highlighting stalled government projects in areas associated with the President.
Just an hour before his arrest, Kebaso posted on his X account, condemning the brutal abduction and torture of Mombasa-based blogger Bruce John.
In a bold video statement, Kebaso recounted Bruce’s ordeal, which allegedly involved 20 individuals who abducted him in Mombasa under the pretense of taking him to apologize to the Governor. Instead, Bruce was tortured and sodomized.
He never made it to the Governor as intended.
Kebaso also issued an ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, demanding the arrest of the Mombasa Governor for his alleged role as an accessory and conspirator in the crime.
