Forgive me if I've wronged you – Gachagua tells Ruto, MPs

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto and Members of Parliament to forgive him for any actions or words they may have found offensive.

Speaking during a church service at the National Prayer Altar, located at his official residence in Karen on Sunday, Gachagua emphasized that his intentions were never to disappoint anyone.

He also extended the plea for forgiveness to cover his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.

“To my brother, President William Ruto, if in my zeal and commitment to our work I have wronged you, I humbly ask for your forgiveness. If my spouse, Pastor Dorcas, in her efforts to support the boy child, has caused any offense, I ask you to forgive her as well,” Gachagua said.

The Deputy President also conveyed a similar message to Members of Parliament, asking for their forgiveness if his words or actions had upset them.

“To our members of Parliament, if in the course of duty, through our utterances and actions we have in one way or another upset you, or wronged you, find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.

The Deputy President’s appeal for forgiveness comes just ahead of the scheduled debate in the National Assembly on an impeachment motion against him. The motion was filed by Kibwezi West MP, Mwengi Mutuse.

Gachagua is expected to appear before MPs to present his defense, after which they will vote on whether or not to remove him from office. If the impeachment is approved, the decision will be forwarded to the Senate, which will then hold a trial to review the charges brought against him.

During the Senate trial, both sides will have an opportunity to present their cases, followed by a vote on whether to impeach the Deputy President or allow him to remain in office.

If impeached, Gachagua will be removed from office. However, he can challenge the Senate’s decision in court, where the ruling may be overturned or upheld, potentially staying the impeachment.
