The public participation process regarding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion commenced on Friday, with some Kenyans also demanding the resignation of President William Ruto.
The day was marked by protests in Nyeri, where residents walked out of the venue, alleging that they had been bribed to support the impeachment effort.
The protests quickly descended into chaos as demonstrators blocked major roads and lit bonfires, chanting, “No Rigathi, No Government.”
“Unapea watu form wasign ati upatie watu mia tano. Hatutaki hiyo mia tano…tunajua kujitaftia…No Rigathi…no government,” one resident stated.
At Bomas of Kenya, a similar scene unfolded as Nairobi residents echoed the same sentiments, insisting that if Deputy President Gachagua’s impeachment passes, President Ruto should also step down.
Chants of “Kufa dereva, kufa makanga” filled the air, with the crowd breaking into song and dance. The phrase, now a popular rallying cry, signifies that if the deputy goes down, the president should follow, as they were elected together as a package deal.

“Tumechoka kuambiwa fulani ni mbaya na fulani ni mzuri. Embe moja ikioza kwa kikapu, yote yameoza. Nasema kufa dereva, kufa makanga na hashtag inapaswa kuwa #FagiaWote,” a Starehe resident said.
“Hii serikali ni sisi tulichagua. Ikiwa Gachagua ni mbaya, hata Ruto ni mbaya. Wote waende. Hakuna kubakisha mtu; kufa dereva, kufa makanga,” another Nairobi resident pointed out.
Frustrated by the recent political developments in the country, Kenyans voiced their dissatisfaction with the current regime, calling for its dissolution.
“Kenya must move forward! The Speaker of the National Assembly should be prepared to take over for the next 90 days. For the sake of peace and tranquility, this government must step down. We are ready to spark a new revolution and elect fresh leaders,” one resident declared.
The impeachment motion, brought forward by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, lists 11 charges aimed at removing Gachagua from office.
