Chaos Erupts at Bomas as Activist Morara Kebaso Attacked During Public Participation Forum
Bomas of Kenya was thrown into disarray earlier on Friday after activist Morara Kebaso was assaulted by goons during a public participation forum addressing the special motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The forum, intended to gather public opinions from various constituencies in Nairobi County, quickly descended into violence and disorder, forcing a halt to the proceedings.
Kebaso, a well-known activist, was attacked upon his arrival at the venue, sparking unrest and further escalating tensions at the already charged event.
“I was barred from entering Bomas at the gate. When I finally got in, I was denied the mic on the Bomas floor. Chaos erupted. I am hurt. I headed to the hospital. I live to speak another day,” Kebaso tweeted.
The situation escalated when chairs and other objects were thrown at Morara Kebaso by unidentified individuals, leading to further chaos. The attackers violently chased the activist out of the venue, causing widespread panic among the attendees.
Security personnel struggled to contain the situation as participants scrambled for safety amidst the disorder. The Master of Ceremonies, recognizing the rising tension, intervened and called on the agitated crowd to cease the violence, attempting to restore order to the disrupted event.
“Citizens, please stop the disruption and sit down. Let us focus on the public participation process,” the MC said.
The proceedings at Bomas were part of a broader constitutional process aimed at gathering public views as part of the formal impeachment process against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The forum offered Nairobi County residents an opportunity to express their opinions on the motion. However, the sudden attack on Morara Kebaso disrupted this process.
At this time, the reason behind the attack on Kebaso remains unclear.
