Senator John Methu Demands Special Sitting Over Abductions

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has written to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, urging him to convene a special session of the Senate to address the escalating cases of abductions gripping the nation.

In a letter shared on his X account on Monday, January 6, Senator Methu emphasized the urgency of addressing these abductions, describing them as a matter of national importance requiring parliamentary intervention.

He expressed concern that the ongoing abductions violate the fundamental human rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

“Pursuant to Standing Order No. 33 (1), I seek your approval for a Special Sitting of the Senate to deliberate on a matter of critical national importance, namely: ending forced abductions and disappearances targeting young government critics,” Methu stated in the letter.

The Senator also criticized the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly failing to address the issue adequately. He accused the abductors of being part of a sophisticated syndicate aimed at silencing dissent.

“Mr. Speaker, this House must act decisively to demand immediate government intervention to halt these illegal and unconstitutional practices,” Methu urged.

His call for a special session comes amid widespread public outrage, with citizens threatening to hold nationwide demonstrations to pressure the government into taking action.

Protests were planned to begin on Monday, January 6, at 9:00 a.m., as Kenyans demanded the return of those who have been abducted.
