Popular Gen Z Protester Immaculate Nekesa Found Dead in Her Room

Immaculate Nekesa, a well-known Gen Z protester who gained viral fame during the June 2024 anti-finance bill demonstrations, has been found dead in her room.

Her classmates made the tragic discovery after she had been missing for two days.

Nekesa, also known by her online name “Ashley Magero,” was a student at Sigalagala Polytechnic.

Concerned by her unusual silence, her classmates decided to check on her, only to find her lifeless body inside her locked room.

Reports suggest that a charcoal stove, commonly referred to as a “jiko,” was found in the room, leading investigators to believe that she died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Initial findings point to suffocation as the cause of death in what is suspected to be a self-inflicted tragedy.

Ronnie Otieno, the head of student welfare at the polytechnic, confirmed her death. “Ashley hadn’t been seen on Thursday, even during a welcome event for first-year students.

When she missed class on Friday, her classmates grew concerned.

After her phone went unanswered, they went to her room, only to find the door locked. We had to break it down, and sadly, we found her lying lifeless on the floor,” Otieno shared.
