Impeached Deputy President Gachagua Speaks Out on National Issues
Recently impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a public appearance at St. James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu County, where he addressed some of Kenya’s key issues, including high taxation, economic hardships, and healthcare challenges.
Gachagua, who attributes his current troubles to his tendency to “speak the truth,” took the opportunity to share his concerns with the public.
Key Issues Highlighted by Gachagua
During his speech, Gachagua focused on three main issues:
- Over-Taxation: Gachagua criticized what he called the burden of heavy taxes on Kenyans, which he believes is worsening economic struggles for ordinary people.
- Economic Hardships: He acknowledged the rising cost of living and the struggles many Kenyans face in their daily lives, calling for measures to ease these hardships.
- Healthcare System Challenges: Gachagua expressed concern over the ongoing transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which he claims has led to confusion and setbacks in the health sector.
Prayer and Support for President Ruto
Gachagua requested prayers for President William Ruto, asking for guidance and wisdom in addressing Kenya’s pressing challenges. He emphasized the need for patience and support, as the President works to find solutions to the nation’s problems:
“We want to ask the people of Kenya to remain peaceful and pray for our President William Ruto to give him wisdom to navigate the challenges affecting the Kenyan people,” Gachagua stated. “Our people are feeling helpless because of economic adversities, over-taxation, and a failing health system. The President has a big job to do, and we want prayers for him so that Kenyans can find some relief as they go about their lives.”
Public Silence and Rare Appearance
This church appearance marked one of Gachagua’s few recent public outings. Since his impeachment, he has largely stayed out of the spotlight, with his social media accounts—which previously featured regular updates—also becoming inactive.
Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, and several political allies, Gachagua seemed in high spirits at the church service.
