Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria’s wife, Jane Waigwe Kimani, and her brother Solomon Mutura Kimani were apprehended on allegations of corruption.
The duo stands accused in the Ksh.140 million corruption case involving Murang’a County.
According to Eric Ngumbi, the spokesperson for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), they were arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for legal proceedings.
Both individuals serve as directors of Value View Ltd, a company implicated in the fraudulent activities.
EACC is actively pursuing the remaining six suspects, including the former Governor, who failed to comply with the summons to appear before the commission on Wednesday morning.
As per a statement from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued on Saturday, the eight individuals stand accused of engaging in irregular tender awarding and other procurement misconduct amounting to the stated sum between 2015 and 2016 within the devolved unit.
The DPP highlighted that an investigation conducted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) uncovered that the suspects unlawfully granted tenders to Top Image Media Consultancy Limited and Value View Limited, showing disregard for conflicts of interest.
The remaining five individuals implicated in the case are Patrick Kagumu Mukuria, Jane Wanjiru Mbuthia, David Maina Kiama, David Mamma Njeri, and Peter Muturi Karanja.
“This comes in the wake of an EACC inquiry into procurement irregularities and conflicts of interest concerning the allocation of publicity tenders by the County Government of Murang’a to M/S Top Image Media Consultancy Ltd in the Financial Year 2014/2015 and 2015/2016,” the DPP’s statement read.
