Morara Kebaso Claims His Attack Was Pre-Planned Prior to Bomas Arrival

On Monday, lawyer and political activist Morara Kebaso detailed how his attack at the Bomas of Kenya, during the public participation on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, had been premeditated.

Speaking on Spice FM, Kebaso expressed his belief that the assault was orchestrated before his arrival at the venue and that security had been compromised.

He further revealed that he was struck by over 30 metallic chairs, despite attending the event as a regular citizen, simply to share his views during the public participation exercise.

“It seems plans had been made much earlier that I would be attacked. It’s the public that demanded that I speak but it was not the wish of the emcee, TJ Kajwang’, that I speak. I was cornered, my bodyguard was injured and I was hit by more than 30 metallic chairs,” Morara revealed.

‘’It is now that I am juggling memory to see where I got it wrong and I think were enough red flags that I should have seen that I did not see. We fall, we rise, we learn,’’ he added.

Kebaso also disclosed that upon his arrival at the Bomas of Kenya, he was initially blocked by the police. It was only after members of the public intervened that he was permitted to enter the compound.

However, once inside, he was again denied access to the venue by officers he identified as being from the General Service Unit (GSU).

‘’I had announced that I would go for the public participation exercise and my position was that we should impeach both the President and the deputy. Having made this position known, some people were uncomfortable with that,’’ he added.

Kebaso explained that he was only granted access to the Bomas of Kenya after seeking help from a senior police officer stationed at one of the entry points. The officer allowed him to enter on the condition that he be accompanied by just one person.

He went on to describe how his security was compromised, as only one member of his security detail was permitted to accompany him. This raised further suspicion about a possible premeditated plan to harm him.

‘’When I returned to the first door, I found a high-ranking officer, and I asked her if I would like to go in and she told me that I could only enter with one person and I think that that is where my security was compromised,’’ he narrated.

‘’I don’t know whether the police intended to compromise my security but I was only allowed in with one person,’’ he added.

Morara recounted how a group of goons emerged from behind the dais and began hurling chairs at him, injuring both him and his security detail, leaving him immobilized.

He further explained that his attempts to escape were thwarted as the exits had been locked. Morara claimed he already knew the individuals responsible for inciting the goons to attack him.

‘’I listened to other people raise their opinions and when I raised my hand, the public pointed at me and demanded that I speak but TJ Kajwang’ refused saying that I wanted to disrupt the meeting. I stood up and said, ‘No, give me the microphone.’ Suddenly some goons came from behind the dias to cause the chaos throwing chairs at me,’’ Morara added.
