KURA Cancels Ksh2.9 Billion Road Tenders Nationwide

On Thursday, May 9, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) made an announcement regarding the cancellation of 95 tenders for road projects nationwide.

As per the directive issued by the Deputy Director of Supply Chain Management at the Authority, the cancellation specifically applies to all tenders advertised in the MyGov newspaper on April 16, 2024.

These road tenders, totaling a budget of Ksh2.9 billion, were intended to be financed through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF), which is funded by a tax levied at the pump, currently set at Ksh18 per litre of petrol and diesel.

The notice released by KURA highlighted the cancellation of tenders advertised on April 16, 2024, along with subsequent notices, addendums, and clarifications.

Kiambu County bears the brunt of this decision, with ten road projects slated for development affected. Projects range from periodic maintenance and spot improvement of Kikuyu link roads to road maintenance around Kinoo Shopping Centre loops and improvement of roads in Kikuyu Town.

Following Kiambu, Murang’a County faces the cancellation of nine projects, including maintenance along various roads like Kandundu village and Mjini Chief’s Office.

Nairobi County, ranking third in terms of affected projects, loses seven endeavors, such as the maintenance of State House roads and the rehabilitation of Cedr road in Westlands.

The halt also affects projects like the improvement of Access Roads to Wilson Airport, with a budget of Ksh40 million.
