Police IG Kanja Reports 57 Abductions Since June 2024, With 29 Still Missing
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has revealed that a total of 57 abduction cases have been reported across Kenya from June 2024 to date. Addressing a parliamentary committee on Thursday, November 7, Kanja disclosed that of these cases, 22 individuals were found alive, 29 remain missing, and six were discovered deceased.
“The National Police Service has recorded a total of 57 abduction and kidnapping cases reported countrywide since June 2024. So far, 22 individuals have been found alive, 29 are still missing, and six have unfortunately been found dead,” Kanja explained.

During his address, Kanja reiterated that police officers do not carry out abductions. “The police do not engage in abductions or kidnappings,” he stated. “We make lawful arrests, detain individuals in police facilities, and proceed with investigations. Those who meet the threshold for prosecution are taken to court, while others are released.”
Regarding the case of missing Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Wajir County, Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, Kanja confirmed that investigations are ongoing and requested public assistance. “Since the report was filed, our team has been actively investigating, but we have yet to receive any information on his whereabouts,” he added.
