IG Kanja Responds to Concerns Over Wajir MCA's Disappearance

Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, reported on Thursday that no arrests have been made regarding the abduction of Wajir MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, who disappeared on September 13.

Speaking before the National Assembly’s Administration and Security Committee, IG Kanja confirmed that authorities are still working to locate the missing MCA, emphasizing that the investigation remains active.

“So far, since the initial report, we have been investigating, and this case remains open. We have no new information on the honorable member’s whereabouts,” he informed the committee, adding an appeal for public assistance.

The MCA’s disappearance drew significant attention, culminating in a tragic development on October 20, when a body, initially believed to be Ahmed’s, was discovered in Lake Yahud.

However, DNA testing later revealed that the body did not match Ahmed’s, sparking more questions and prompting Ahmed’s family to seek clarity in court.

The case has also raised alarms among local leaders. On October 31, the County Assemblies Forum threatened to shut down operations in all 47 county assemblies within two weeks if the government fails to provide answers.

In a statement, the Forum demanded that the Della Anole Ward MCA be produced, alive or deceased.

The police chief also addressed concerns over Kenya’s broader security situation, noting that of the 57 reported abductions in 2024, 22 cases have been resolved, 29 individuals remain missing, and six have been confirmed dead.

“We are committed to holding those responsible accountable. Our mission is to deliver justice, and we will not relent,” he assured.
