Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto, has joined the ongoing national dialogue concerning corruption, public fund mismanagement, taxation, unemployment, and national debt. In recent weeks, Ruto has consistently expressed her views on these matters. On Wednesday, July 3, she convened a group of ’47 presidents’ representing student associations from all 47 counties. Addressing various issues affecting the youth, Ruto, accompanied by these young leaders, assured the public and media that she is attentive to their concerns.

“I hear your voices and understand your concerns,” Ruto affirmed. “Our generation faces significant challenges, from unemployment to the escalating cost of living, all exacerbated by our current economic situation.”

She emphasized the importance of youth involvement in national affairs, describing it as vital to nurturing a vibrant democracy.

On X, Ruto continued to urge young people to actively participate in the country’s affairs, pledging her readiness to “listen, learn, and work” alongside them.

“This is exactly what I encourage – constructive engagement. Let’s be the generation known not just for our passion, but for our innovative approaches to governance and civic participation. I am here to listen, learn, and collaborate with you. I am here for you,” she stated.

However, Charlene’s message received criticism and mockery from some Kenyans, who questioned the authority she had to speak on such matters. Many expressed that they were more interested in hearing from her father, rather than her.

Veteran DJ Krowbar commented, “Completely out of touch with the current state of the country. Also, you are not a government official to address Kenyans. You are the president’s daughter seeking attention.”

Another person remarked, “We never saw Ngina Kenyatta speak this much throughout the entire 10-year presidency. ‘I hear you’… But who are you to say that? We are addressing our concerns to your father. Stay in your lane!”

The reaction underscored the skepticism and divided opinions among the public regarding Charlene Ruto’s public statements and role in national discourse.

Popular content creator Dennis Ombachi chimed in too, saying, “Hatuja kataa wewe ni blood ambassador. Ambassador of the blood shed by the youth murdered by this GOVT. That’s what you represent, speak up for them or forever hold your peace. Na siongelei nywele.”

Media personality Adelle Onyango expressed her displeasure with Charlene Ruto’s involvement in national affairs, stating, “Things don’t go wrong, they START wrong. The beginning here was @charlruto appointing herself the leader of the youth. Even attempting to introduce the ‘office of the first daughter’. Gen Z have already tabled their demands to your father. Stop this.”

Among the President’s children, Charlene has been notably active and visible, frequently organizing events, participating in youth summits, launching initiatives, and engaging in discussions on significant national issues.
