Senior Police Officer Shoots Himself

The high-ranking officer reportedly used his Ceska pistol to end his life on Tuesday night at around 11 p.m.

The Inspector was by himself at home when neighbors, who also happened to be his colleagues, heard a gunshot coming from the Chief Officer’s residence.

When they rushed to the scene, they discovered the Inspector’s lifeless body on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood.

Part of the police report stated, “The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Dabel Police Station sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound under the chin, with the bullet exiting through the forehead, using a Ceska pistol.”

During initial investigations, law enforcement recovered approximately 14 rounds of ammunition in close proximity to the deceased’s body.

After the tragic incident, the Moyale Sub-County Police Commander and investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrived at the scene to launch a probe into the officer’s untimely death.

Simultaneously, the body of the deceased was transferred to Moyale Sub-County Hospital, where it awaited a postmortem examination.

This unfortunate event marks the second instance of suicide within a short span in Moyale. Just two months earlier, a newly recruited police officer took his own life at Burduras West Location shortly after starting his new assignment. Local residents discovered his body hanging from a tree and promptly notified the police, according to a police report.

Officers stationed at Burduras Police Station quickly responded to the scene and positively identified the deceased as a recently appointed Administration Police officer.

Shortly after the junior officer’s tragic death, personnel including the Takaba Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from Mandera West Sub-County arrived to document the sequence of events.
