The family of the esteemed veteran actor, John Okafor, fondly known as Mr. Ibu, has announced his burial arrangements. He will be laid to rest on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, located in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement issued by the late actor’s brother, Sunday Okafor, it was conveyed, “The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State, seeks to pay homage to the cherished memory of our beloved hero and legend, who, even in passing, has bequeathed a legacy of love, laughter, and vitality.
“We extend our heartfelt invitation for your esteemed presence as we bid farewell to our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law on June 28, 2024.
“We invite you to join us in commemorating the finest moments with our revered icon.”
After grappling with deteriorating health, the beloved actor, Mr. Ibu, sadly succumbed on March 2, 2024.
His health struggles became public knowledge in October 2023 when he disclosed his battle with diabetes. Despite enduring seven surgeries, his condition worsened, leading to the amputation of his leg the following month.
To alleviate the burden of his medical expenses, his family turned to social media for support. Their plea resonated with numerous Nigerians and organizations who generously contributed varying amounts towards his treatment costs.
Subsequently, controversy erupted within the comic actor’s family as accusations of embezzlement surfaced among its members regarding the funds donated by Mr. Ibu’s fans.
