Wajir Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Yussef Hussein Ahmed, who had been missing for over a month, was found dead in Lake Yahud. His body was badly mutilated, and the discovery has shocked the community.
Body Identification
Ahmed’s family was able to identify him despite the severe injuries. The body was found with:
- Eyes gouged out
- Nose and hands chopped off
- Face burned, making it hard to recognize
However, a missing finger that Ahmed had for a long time helped his family confirm his identity.

Disappearance and Search
Ahmed, who was also the Minority Leader of the Wajir County Assembly, went missing on September 13, 2024. A search for him had been ongoing for weeks, but no solid leads had been found.
According to reports, Ahmed was abducted by armed men on the night of September 13 along Enterprise Road in Nairobi. He was on his way home from South C at the time of the attack. The taxi driver, who was with Ahmed, reported that the kidnappers took his phone, likely to prevent any tracking. However, the driver later recovered the phone, which helped security agencies investigate the case further.
Family’s Legal Efforts
In September, Ahmed’s family took legal action, asking the Inspector General (IG) of Police to produce him, dead or alive. They filed a case, with the IG of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) listed as the key respondents.
False Reports of Ahmed’s Location
Three days after Ahmed’s abduction, Eldas Constituency Member of Parliament, Adan Keynan, claimed that Ahmed had been seen unconscious in a hospital in Migori. This information later turned out to be false.
