TikTok recently announced that it removed 360,000 videos uploaded by Kenyan users between April and June of this year. This decision was made due to violations of the platform’s community guidelines, according to a report shared with the media on November 13.
The report highlights that the removed videos represented less than 1% of the total content uploaded by Kenyans during this period—approximately 0.3%.
TikTok employed automated technology to detect harmful videos, allowing it to proactively remove 99.1% of these videos before users could report them, with 95% taken down within 24 hours of being posted.
Additionally, TikTok banned 60,465 accounts, with the majority suspected of being operated by users under the age of 13, which is against the platform’s guidelines.
On a global scale, TikTok took down more than 178 million videos during this reporting period for community guideline violations, demonstrating its commitment to content moderation as it manages millions of daily posts.
