President Ruto Pledges to Address Bishops’ Concerns During Embu Diocese Installation Ceremony
President William Ruto attended the installation ceremony of Bishop Peter Kimani as the Catholic Bishop of Embu Diocese on Saturday, held at the University of Embu grounds.
The event, which marked a new chapter for the Catholic Church in the region, was attended by religious leaders, politicians, and government officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Ruto assured the Catholic bishops that his administration would address the issues they raised concerning the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). Acknowledging the bishops’ concerns, Ruto expressed his commitment to resolving any shortcomings in the implementation of the program.

“The other day, I received greetings from the council of bishops in the form of a letter. I want to assure the bishops that any mistakes in the SHIF rollout will be corrected. Universal Health Coverage is essential, and we must ensure it benefits every Kenyan without leaving anyone behind,” Ruto said.

The President emphasized that the SHIF is key to achieving universal health coverage, a goal aimed at enhancing access to healthcare for all Kenyans. He reassured the clergy that the government values their input and will work collaboratively to ensure the program’s success.
Ruto also highlighted the government’s commitment to working with religious institutions to promote national unity, peace, and development. He praised the church for its pivotal role in shaping the moral fabric of the nation and guiding the youth amid the rapid social and economic changes.

The installation of Bishop Kimani was a momentous occasion, with prominent church leaders, including the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Hubertus Matheus van Megen, and a host of local bishops in attendance.
