President William Ruto’s legal team has withdrawn from the case involving Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.
Why the Lawyers Withdrew
The decision to withdraw was led by lawyer Kamotho Njenga, who explained the following reasons:
- President Cannot Face Civil Proceedings: Njenga pointed out that President Ruto cannot be involved in civil cases. This is based on a ruling by the Supreme Court that the President is protected from such legal proceedings.
- Respect for Court Orders: The legal team said they must follow the court’s orders. Acting in the case would go against the Supreme Court’s decision.

Lawyer’s Statement
Kamotho Njenga stated:
- “We will no longer represent the sixth respondent in this matter, which is President Ruto. We have filed a notice to cease action as per the Supreme Court’s ruling.”
- “We ask the court to consider this as formal notice that the sixth respondent is now without legal representation in this case.”
The Case Continues Without Ruto’s Lawyers
The notice to stop representing President Ruto has already been filed, and the case will proceed without him being represented in court.
