President William Ruto has reassured the Kenyan populace that his administration will not tolerate any extrajudicial killings or political assassinations. He also expressed openness to comprehensive investigations into the accident responsible for the tragic demise of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.
In light of the nation’s historical context, as highlighted by Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga’s reference to the passing of General Francis Ogolla, the President emphasized a commitment to thorough investigation.
“While acknowledging this tragic incident as an accident, we cannot ignore the history of this region, where we’ve witnessed both accidents and the unfortunate assassinations of leaders. Hence, it’s natural for us to seek clarity, not out of suspicion but a quest for truth,” remarked the President.
Addressing General Ogolla’s son, Joel, Senator Oburu urged patience and cooperation: “We understand your concerns, Joel. Our insistence on a comprehensive investigation is not a reflection on you but a cautious approach borne out of past experiences. We seek full transparency to uncover the truth behind General Ogolla’s demise.”
As he approached the podium, the President underscored his paramount responsibility to safeguard every Kenyan, firmly asserting that such unfortunate incidents of the past would not recur under his leadership.

“It is an undeniable fact that we’ve mourned the loss of countless Kenyans due to extrajudicial killings and political assassinations. I made a solemn pledge to the nation that these dark chapters will never stain our future again,” President Ruto affirmed.
“There shall never be another occasion where we have bodies of Kenyans in river Yala. Not under my watch.” Added the President.
He further emphasized that, like every other Kenyan citizen, he harbors a keen interest in uncovering the truth, ensuring that all pertinent details will be revealed without reservation.
“I have full confidence in KDF. They are our foremost professional entity in Kenya therefore I have full confidence that General Omenda and the team he has appointed to make sure that all details are laid bare on the accident that took away the life of General Ogolla. I know the KDF are as concerned as I am and every Kenyan on the life of Ogolla.” Stated Ruto.
General Francis Ogolla was laid to rest at his home in Alego, Siaya county on April 21 2024.
