Kenyans continue to express concerns about their financial struggles despite the Kenya Kwanza Government’s efforts to create jobs and lower the prices of household goods.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah attributes this situation to a lack of participation in productive economic activities by a significant portion of the population.
“Money comes from economic activities. If a large segment of the population is not engaged in productive endeavors, they will not have money in their pockets,” Ichung’wah stated during a Wednesday interview on KTN.

He outlined various initiatives the government has undertaken over the past two years to address the high cost of living. These include tackling the 2022 fuel shortage, reducing fuel prices gradually, and lowering the dollar exchange rate from Ksh162 to Ksh129, which he noted has contributed to a drop in the cost of unga.
Ichung’wah acknowledged ongoing public frustration with the high cost of living but argued that this issue is not unique to Kenya. “Even in the US election campaigns, the cost of living was a central issue. Over the weekend in the UK, there were demonstrations on the same matter,” he remarked.

He expressed confidence in the Kenya Kwanza government’s strategies, predicting they would soon yield positive results. “Time will vindicate us. I believe Kenyans will eventually see that what they perceive as lies is, in fact, the truth,” he added, citing his faith in President Ruto’s vision for the country.
Addressing the public dissatisfaction, Ichung’wah reflected on his acceptance of criticism as part of his political career. “If I wanted a job without criticism, I would have stayed in my previous business of selling meat,” he said.
He emphasized the need for resilience in politics, stating, “In this role, you must be magnanimous enough to accept criticism while staying focused and confident that you are doing the right thing.”
