Kenyan Football Coach Sentenced to Life in Prison, Plus an Additional 110 Years

Kilifi County-based football coach Peter Muriithi received a life sentence with an additional 110-year prison term.

The Malindi-based coach was sentenced after being found guilty of defiling minors, according to a statement released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Friday, November 8.

The ODPP claims that evidence presented in court demonstrated that the man exploited the boys in his care. It was discovered that the crimes took place in Malindi, where the boys were training under the coach, between 2022 and 2023.

The man would frequently entice young sports fans by promising financial assistance to their families, the authorities told the court.

Part of the statement read, “The coach was sentenced by Kilifi Principal Magistrate Ivy Wasike after he was found guilty of defiling the minors who had been under his care as their coach.”.

“The accused, who oversaw a football team with players under the age of 15, would enlist the kids and provide their families with financial support in order to buy their silence for his actions,” the prosecution explained to the court.

Additionally, after it was determined that the man had pornographic materials involving minors in his possession, he was given a sentence of 110 years.
