The Office of the Fourth President of Kenya has declared that its employees have not received salaries for two years.
During a press briefing on Monday, the office’s spokesperson, Kanze Dena, stated that she cannot accurately quantify the total outstanding amount.
“We regret to inform that we have not received any salary for the past two years. It’s difficult to estimate the expenses incurred by the former president during this period, encompassing fuel, staff meals, travel expenses, and utilities,” Kanze explained.
Furthermore, she claimed that the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has not been provided with a fully furnished and maintained office.
Speaking to the media, Dena expressed surprise at the state’s assertion that the retired President enjoys a fully furnished and maintained office.
“The assertion that the retired President has access to a fully furnished and maintained office is incorrect. This matter remains unresolved to date,” she remarked.
Dena clarified that the late President Mwai Kibaki had chosen an office in Nyari as suitable for himself, asserting that Uhuru is entitled to select an office suitable for him to carry out his duties.
On May 19, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed clarified that there is an office available for the former President.
“There is an office complex in Nyari previously utilized by the late President Mwai Kibaki for 9 years. It is currently vacant and available for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s use whenever he deems necessary,” Mohamed stated.
