Eric Omondi Set to Host a Parallel Mashujaa Day celebration Event

Comedian Eric Omondi has revealed plans to lead a parallel Mashujaa Day celebration in honor of those who lost their lives during protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

While the official Mashujaa Day event will take place on October 20 in Kwale County, at the newly built stadium in Matuga sub-county, Omondi’s alternative gathering aims to highlight and commemorate the victims of the anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Omondi stated that the parallel celebration would be dedicated to remembering those who died in the fight against the controversial bill.

“On October 20 as “they” celebrate Mashujaa Day, we will also host a mega event to celebrate our heroes!!! Our Shujaa’s,” he said

Omondi further called on Kenyans to suggest a suitable venue for the parallel event, emphasizing that the families of the victims would be in attendance. He expressed his intention to make the event a meaningful tribute to those who lost their lives during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

“It is official we will be hosting a parallel Mashujaa Day mega event on October 20 to celebrate our shujaas who died during the protests. Please suggest a suitable venue ndio tui book leo. We will have the parents and families of the heroes seated on the main dias as chief guests,” the statement reads.

For over two months, Kenyans across the country took to the streets to protest the Finance Bill 2024. The demonstrations were marked by clashes between protesters and the police, who used teargas to disperse crowds. Protesters held placards, lit bonfires, and chanted songs in cities nationwide, with many Gen Z participants pushing for changes in government and governance.

The protests tragically resulted in the deaths of several young Kenyans, while others suffered severe injuries. Eric Omondi announced that the parallel concert would serve as a commemoration for those who lost their lives during these demonstrations.

Meanwhile, the President is expected to lead the official Mashujaa Day celebrations, honoring national heroes on October 20.
