A Nakuru court has dropped charges against former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and his co-accused after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested a dismissal on Monday morning.
Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion announced the decision on Monday afternoon, citing the prosecution’s admission that they lacked sufficient evidence to proceed.

According to the prosecution, the 20 witnesses scheduled to testify were unwilling to appear in court due to personal connections with the accused, among other reasons.

The court ordered that Maina Njenga and his 11 co-accused be officially discharged, with their bonds refunded and their phones returned.
Njenga and his co-accused had been facing charges related to alleged membership in the outlawed Mungiki group and involvement in organized crime.
