The impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took an unexpected pause on Thursday when the DP failed to appear for the afternoon session.
Gachagua was set to testify later in the day, but his legal team, led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite, informed the Senate that he had fallen ill and was hospitalized.
“The unfortunate reality is that the DP has been taken ill and is currently in the hospital,” Muite stated.
Muite then requested Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to allow his team more time to monitor Gachagua’s condition.
“I propose that we be given the rest of the day to assess the DP’s situation. I will return with an update by 5 pm after speaking with the doctors,” Muite added.
