Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alongside his supporters, has criticized 48 MPs from Mt. Kenya who have pledged allegiance to Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki.
Gachagua and his allies drew a parallel to an old Kikuyu fable in which a hyena and a hare agree to beat their wives. The hare uses drums to make it seem like both are participating, while the hyena ends up harming his wife alone.
In their comparison, the MPs are likened to the hyena, implying that they are being misled or left to bear the consequences alone.
“Do you know our hyenas? Do you know them? Do you know them?” Deputy President Gachagua questioned at the Kabiru-ini grounds in Nyeri during the official opening of the Central Kenya ASK show.
His remarks were made just 48 hours after a delegation of 48 MPs in Nyahururu publicly declared their support for Interior and National Administration CS Professor Kithure Kindiki for the remainder of the Kenya Kwanza government’s term.
The Deputy President further criticized the MPs, calling them sell-outs driven by greed. He accused them of being manipulated to create divisions within the Mt. Kenya community for personal gain.
“I may not know everything, and I’m not particularly clever, but I’m not a fool either. There are things I know, and when the time is right, I will speak,” Gachagua stated.
In response, legislators aligned with Gachagua condemned their colleagues, claiming they had lost their way and were no longer fit to represent the people.
“If you see a dog nearby, just know that the owner is around. This message is for the owner of the dog. Put a leash on your dog or forget about us. Put a leash on your dog or forget about who?” Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru said, seemingly addressing National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
Allies of Deputy President Gachagua have accused Ichung’wah of reigniting the Mt. Kenya supremacy battle.
“Sijui kama sisi tutakuwa hatuna akili timamu tutoke msitu wa fisi tuingie msitu wa chui. Tukuje tu yule mtu anaeza peleka malalamishi yetu bila kufukuzwa tumnyang’anye nguvu yake ya kikatiba ndio tuseme tunapeleka kwa mtu mwingine na sijui kama kuna mtu aliuliza watu wake kabla ya kufanya ule uamuzi,” said Kirinyaga Senator James Murango.
President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua are scheduled to visit Nyeri on Sunday, amid ongoing tensions in the Mt. Kenya supremacy battle.
