DCI Clarifies Reports That 2 Men Were Arrested for Breaking Into State House and Slept on Ruto's Bed

DCI Debunks Fake News About Alleged Break-In at Mombasa State House

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed as fake reports circulating online that detectives arrested two individuals for breaking into the Mombasa State House and sleeping on President William Ruto’s bed.

The false claims alleged that the suspects entered the State House through an open window to experience the comfort of the president’s bed. However, the DCI clarified in a statement on Sunday that the suspects were not arrested for such an incident but for a separate crime along Digo Road in Mombasa.

“Contrary to some fake news doing rounds in the online space, two suspects were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Central Police Station Mombasa for handling suspected stolen properties,” the DCI stated.

The fabricated report also claimed that the suspects were discovered after State House cooks heard snoring from the President’s bedroom and alerted security guards. The fake story suggested no items were damaged or stolen, raising questions about the alleged suspects’ motives.

The DCI revealed that the two suspects, aged 20 and 29, were apprehended following a tip-off from the public, who suspected them of dealing in stolen goods. Detectives raided their residence at the Rio Building on Digo Road, recovering an array of stolen items, including 51 mobile phones and several laptops worth over Ksh1.2 million.

This incident comes just a day after the DCI arrested a notorious suspect in Kasarani, Nairobi, accused of drugging a foreign national and stealing over Ksh500,000. The suspect had been under police surveillance after multiple reports linked her to similar crimes. She allegedly also stole two mobile phones and other valuables from the Chad national before fleeing the scene.

The DCI continues to urge the public to verify news and information from credible sources to avoid spreading false narratives.
