In a series of coordinated operations, police have arrested several individuals, including a centre manager and a supervisor, for alleged involvement in exam malpractice at secondary schools across Nandi, Baringo, and Garissa counties.
In Nandi County, the centre manager and supervisor at a secondary school were detained after police received intelligence that images of a CRE Paper 1 examination, belonging to a student from that school, were circulating on social media.
A team of officers visited the school, confirming that the images indeed matched the exam paper of a candidate there. The centre manager, supervisor, and two invigilators were subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Police noted that the four failed to provide a satisfactory explanation as to how the exam material reached social media.

All individuals, including the involved candidate, have recorded statements and may face charges once investigations conclude.
In a separate incident at St. Mary’s Secondary School in Baringo County, a police officer reported a case of malpractice after an invigilator flagged a student acting suspiciously in the examination room.
Upon intervention, the officer found a male candidate with a concealed Nokia C200 mobile phone. After the student initially refused to hand over the device, the officer retrieved it by force.
The phone contained questions and answers related to the ongoing exam, leading to the candidate’s immediate arrest and booking at Salawa Police Station.

Over in Garissa County, authorities seized mobile phones from two candidates at different schools during exams.
At Ihya High School, an invigilator discovered a candidate with a phone during the Islamic Religious Education Paper 1 exam, which was then handed over to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and further transferred to security officials.
Later, acting on information from a KNEC officer, the DCIO Dadaab team raided Gedi Secondary School, where another mobile phone was confiscated from a candidate during a biology exam.
These arrests reflect heightened efforts by security agencies and the Kenya National Examination Council to crack down on exam malpractice and ensure integrity in the ongoing KCSE examination process.
