Body of Missing Masinde Muliro University Lecturer Found in Jordan River
The body of Dr. Jairus Omuteche, a lecturer at Masinde Muliro University, who had been reported missing since Saturday, has been recovered from the Jordan River.
According to Ebulonga Chief Evans Ouya, the family raised an alarm after Dr. Omuteche failed to return home following a visit to his farm, which borders the river. His disappearance prompted a three-day search that culminated in the discovery of his body on Monday evening, approximately 15 kilometers downstream near an intersection where the Jordan River merges with River Yala.

Chief Ouya explained that on the day of his disappearance, Dr. Omuteche had planned to prepare his cowshed and had gone to collect sticks from his farm. “We noticed some sticks already cut on his farm, but one was floating in the river. This raised suspicions that he might have drowned, prompting intensified search efforts,” Ouya stated.
Luanda detectives have taken over the case to investigate the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s sudden death.
Dr. Omuteche’s body has been moved to Itando Mission Hospital morgue as investigations continue.
Chief Ouya described the late lecturer as a pillar in the community, noting his contributions to education and youth empowerment. “He sponsored children from humble backgrounds to pursue higher education and employed local youths in his development projects,” he said, mourning the loss of a dedicated educationist and philanthropist.
