A recent survey by Infotrak Research revealed that 73 percent of Kenyans feel the country is on the wrong path.
Released on Friday, October 11, the report highlighted key concerns such as the rising cost of living, high taxes, unemployment, and widespread poverty as the primary reasons behind this sentiment.
Additionally, respondents pointed to corruption, poor infrastructure, tribalism, extrajudicial killings, and state-led abductions as other factors contributing to the country’s challenges.
The survey also showed regional variations, with Nairobi leading in dissatisfaction at 78 percent, followed by North Eastern at 77 percent. Central and Eastern regions reported 76 percent, while 72 percent of Rift Valley residents shared similar concerns.
The poll also revealed that only 11 percent of Kenyans felt the country was moving in the right direction. These respondents credited their optimism to what they perceived as government growth and the belief that the cost of living remained affordable.
Infotrak highlighted that the major concerns among respondents were the high cost of living, unemployment, and access to quality and affordable healthcare.
“The top three key concerns reported by respondents are the high cost of living (40%), unemployment (29%), and access to quality and affordable healthcare (27%). Both in September and October 2024, respondents consistently rated the high cost of living and unemployment at 40% and 29%, respectively, as the primary issues,” Infotrak noted in the report.
The survey, conducted on October 9, 2024, involved quantitative interviews using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). Infotrak emphasized that the survey sample was proportionally distributed across all regions of the country.
