“10 Dead, 20 Injured in Horrific Kakamega Highway Crash”
Ten people lost their lives, and twenty others were injured in a tragic accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway at Iguhu Bridge on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred when a tanker traveling toward Kakamega lost control and collided with two 14-seater matatus headed to Chavakali.
According to police, the incident happened around 6 p.m., and the tanker driver fled the scene shortly after. Reports indicate that the tanker struck a bump, veered off course, and moved into oncoming traffic, causing the deadly collision.
Emergency responders transported the injured passengers to Vihiga County Referral Hospital and Kakamega County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital Morgue for identification and post-mortem.
Police have launched a search to locate the tanker driver, and efforts are underway to understand the exact cause of the crash. Authorities have expressed growing concern over the rise in road accidents and are urging the public to strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
The incident comes amid an alarming trend: a report from mid-September revealed that 3,369 people have died in road accidents across Kenya since January 2024. Police are calling on all road users to prioritize safety to prevent further loss of life.
